New to Alrest? Follow these steps to get your party battle-ready fast.
- 1
Learn Driver Arts and Blade switching
Each Driver controls three Blades in battle. Swap between Rex, Nia, and Tora early to learn auto-attacks, Driver Arts, and Specials. Mastering Blade switching is the foundation for every boss in Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
- 2
Open Common Core Crystals for Rare Blades
Visit an Assistant Salvager in any major town and spend Common Core Crystals to roll for Rare Blades. Luck modifiers from Poppi's skill tree and certain accessories improve odds before you chase KOS-MOS or Sheba.
- 3
Build Driver Combos on staggered enemies
Coordinate Break, Topple, Launch, and Smash stages across your party. Assign Blades with the right Driver Arts and use element opposites to extend combo timers and set up Fusion Combos.
- 4
Raise Blade trust with pouches and quests
Feed each Blade their favorite pouch items in Torigoth or Fonsa Myma, then complete Affinity Chart nodes. Higher trust unlocks stronger Blade Specials and passive bonuses during long Titan travels.
- 5
Tune accessories before Chapter 7
Equip accessories that boost Strength, Ether, or Agility depending on your role. Review endgame Core Chip grids in the Builds hub and read Switch 2 Edition notes if you play on Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.

Wiki FAQ
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is Xenoblade Chronicles 2 about?
You play as Rex, a salvager on the cloud sea of Alrest who becomes the Driver of Pyra, an Aegis Blade. Together you search for the World Tree while building bonds with Blades and navigating political conflict between nations riding on colossal Titans.
Do I need to play Xenoblade Chronicles 1 first?
No. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a standalone story set in the same universe. Playing XC1 or Xenoblade X adds lore callbacks, but XC2 fully introduces its cast, combat, and world on its own.
Which languages are supported?
This wiki supports: English, Français, Deutsch, Español.
What changed in the Switch 2 Edition?
Install Ver. 3.0.0 first, then use the Upgrade Pack or full Switch 2 Edition for up to 4K docked, 60 fps battles, Merc Assault, MOMO, and new outfits. Original Switch saves transfer. See the Version Update guide for purchase paths.
How long does a typical playthrough take?
The main story runs roughly 60 to 70 hours. Completing Rare Blade quests, Merc missions, and endgame super bosses like Ophion or the Temperantia skirmishes can push a completionist run past 120 hours.
